Brendan comes to CR from a diverse background in woodworking, fabrication, creative practice and design, having most recently earned an MA in Computer Music from UC San Diego, where he focused on experimental/industrial design of musical instruments and human computer interaction.

Born in New York, Brendan grew up in his father’s woodworking shop, learning a love of craftsmanship and the medium at an early age. Combining his interests in music and creation, he was Skidmore College’s first “Sound” major, a hybrid degree in Neuroscience, Computer Science, Physics, Art and Music, working under mentor Flip Phillips.

While pursuing a graduate degree in Computer Music, he was an active musician, playing improvised electronics and saxophone in solo and group performances, a published researcher focused on sonic interaction design and working as an instructor and designer at Fab Lab San Diego, where he taught classes focused around fabrication, industrial design, music and invention.

He returns to a more manual approach to the material around him, seeking respite from the growing focus in the work around him on digital and impersonal means. A lifelong woodworker, he is interested in working with local woods and traditional design techniques with flexible accuracy and sharp tools.
