I grew up in England but have called Amsterdam home for the past eight years.

I’ve always had an interest in woodworking but only seriously picked up the tools three years ago. It snowballed from a short course to a part-time school. Along the way I met a maker of 30 years who became a mentor as I did my best to learn between working full-time. At some point the penny dropped and I decided this is what I wanted to pursue.

Juggling my days working as a software engineer and in the workshop wasn’t enough to make the progress I wanted – I decided full time in school was the way to go. I looked at schools in England, Sweden and elsewhere but the writing of Krenov and the approach of the school really resonated with me. Naturally I was beyond excited to find out I was accepted.

I aim to build a solid technical foundation here, get a better feel for design and, on a personal level, turn towards a lifestyle more aligned with my values.

I feel privileged to be able to immerse myself in this work over these months. I hope I can do the opportunity justice!
