Daily Schedule: M-F 8:30am - 5:30pm
This course offers a foundational exploration of furniture design principles, emphasizing aesthetics, comfort, and functionality. Assignments and projects, both practical and exploratory, will help students to develop skills in ideating, planning, drafting, and model-making. Lectures and demonstrations will inform students of the principles of design, historical precedent, and material considerations. Open to all levels of woodworking experience.
Note: Please be aware that this course focuses on the design process and will not involve machine use or the construction of any finished work.
Extra Tools and Materials Required
No tools are required, but students are strongly encouraged to bring any drafting tools they feel comfortable with, such as sketchbooks, rulers, pencils, erasers, and/or tablets. Students may also wish to bring any hand tools relevant to model making, including: a small handsaw, carving knife, X-Acto, files/rasps, a block plane, and a small combination square. Zona saws will be available to purchase through the school during class.
